Empowering Kids to Make Their World Better Through Art
ART FOR A CAUSE: Each spring we have an "Art for A Cause" themed art show held at Countryside Gallery in historic Newtown in early June. Art can do more than decorate! Art can educate, influence and inspire. I encourage students to use art to raise awareness and support the causes that they are passionate about in a positive and proactive way. The students suggest causes that are important to them. We make a list and then vote on the cause that will be the theme of our art show each year.
My classes are currently filled. If you are interested, please email me at bonnieporter1@verizon.net and I will add you to my wait list.
Our June 2022 art show
at Countryside Gallery
raised
over $1,600 for Allied Whale!
Click on the slideshow below to view the students' paintings.

Allied Whale focuses on whale research and the conservation of marine mammals. As oceans warm, whales face new dangers. The Gulf of Maine is one of the fastest-warming bodies of water on the planet, and whale research there could shed light on the impacts of climate change on oceans worldwide.
Sunflowers for Ukraine Fundraiser
at Countryside Gallery raised $3,155.00 so far!
Students Helping Students: 40 local youth came together to create one collaborative painting, "Sunflowers for Ukraine" to raise funds for Ukrainian refugee children. (Watch the YouTube video below!) Posters featuring their sunflower painting are on sale at Countryside Gallery in Newtown while supplies last.
100% benefits Ukrainian refugee children.
CLASS INFO: Classes are held September through May starting shortly after Labor Day and ending the week before Memorial Day. Students 4th grade and up practice good drawing skills while exploring various art mediums including pencil, pastel, acrylic on canvas, and watercolor. (No crafts or clay) This is a traditional drawing and painting workshop geared towards having fun, building confidence and giving back to our community through art.
Class sizes of 8 students or less ensures individual attention and that students progress at their own pace. Each class is made up of students of mixed ages and skill levels. We do not all copy the same sample painting in these classes. Every art project is customized to your child's interests! Students are encouraged to invest their time and effort into producing quality art as opposed to quantity - this is not a race. Please wear "play clothes" as sometimes art gets messy. Thank you.
Full disclosure: I do not have a teaching degree, I have a degree in fine art and graphic design and work as an artist and designer for the fine china industry. My work can be found at bonnieporter.com so you can get a feel for my background. I enjoy sharing what I know with students and encouraging them to use their art to make their world a better place.
TUITION: Tuition is monthly and the rate is $17.00 per one hour class, due by the first class of each month. There are no semester contracts and you are only committed to one month at a time. Tuition includes all materials. Class meets once each week except for holidays, and I will let everyone know how many classes will be held each month. PRORATING: I can prorate your monthly tuition for some special occasions, but only if you let me know what dates your child will need to miss class by the 1st of each month. I can only continue to offer prorating if it is mutually fair. I cannot prorate for missing class due to too much homework, coaches rescheduling sports, or being invited to participate in other activities. While I understand kids' busy schedules, I cannot be penalized for them. After the 1st of the month, a makeup class can be requested, but I can only offer one if a spot becomes available. Thank you for your understanding.
ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to set this time aside each week for art class, just like any other after school activity. There are no refunds for cancellations or absences. However, if something comes up and your child needs to miss a class, please call to let me know and I will try to offer a makeup class, but only if a slot in another class becomes available. I do not offer make up classes for no shows with no phone call to let me know. The reason being that if you do not let me know that your child will be missing class, that eliminates the opportunity for another student to use that spot for their make up class. If your child needs to stop art class for a month or so to play a sport or do another activity, I can save your child's spot for a holding fee of 25% of the tuition for each class missed up to 6 classes, and 50% for each additional class skipped.
UNEXPECTED CLASS CANCELLATIONS: In the event that I have to cancel a class due to illness or bad weather, I will contact everyone via text and email, and a credit will be offered towards the next month of classes. If it is your child's final month of art classes, then a refund will be issued. Please provide your contact info before your child's first class. Thank you.
Due to Covid-19
Masks are recommended but not required, unless Covid cases are high.
I have a high risk family member at home, and so do some of my students.
Thank you for understanding.

"ONE PLANET: Species Vulnerable to Climate Change"
Students raised awareness concerning the impact that global warming is having on wildlife. Participating students were recognized in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick! Click this link to view the YouTube Video: https://youtu.be/XENwBlpv6d8
Thank you Congressman Fitzpatrick
for being so supportive of our young artists:

Animals and plants are struggling to adapt to new conditions created by climate change. Many life-forms are forced to move or change their behaviors in order to survive as their habitats shift. The species that will struggle most will be the ones that are very specific in what they eat or where they live, especially if their habitats are eliminated. Climate swings have occurred in the past, but the changes have taken a thousand times longer than the current human-made climate change.

To hide from predators, this North American rabbit has evolved to turn white in winter to blend in with the snow. Snow in some areas is melting earlier due to climate change, leaving stark white hares exposed to predators. Tip to slow global warming: Plant trees! Trees are great for pulling CO2 out of the atmosphere and releasing oxygen in its place. One tree can absorb a ton of carbon dioxide during its life. The tree with also provide a sense of shelter, shade, and heat protection naturally.

Congratulations on another great art show. You should all be very proud.
